June 26, 1991…for most of you that day doesn’t mean much but it brings horrible memories for me. It was right before my 11th birthday when the war in Yugoslavia broke out. Over 140,000 people lost their lives in this fight to defend their integrity, to protect their family and to save their children from what was to come. Additionally, some 2.5 million people were displaced or immigrated. The war tore Yugoslavia into pieces and it did not stop there. Fathers and sons lost their lives on the front lines and mothers and daughter lost each other. In the end children were the one who suffered the most: they accounted for approximately 40% of war victims and those lucky enough to survive had to face the new challenge of growing up in the worst of conditions.
 

Serbs for Serbs celebrated St. Vasilije

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs celebrated on May 12 their slava Saint Vasilije Ostroski in Belgrade. Slava gathered around 50 members of the organization from Serbia, and approximately 50 donors and friends. Consecration of the traditional cake, cereal and wine was organized after the liturgy in the church of Saint Simeon on New Belgrade, and after that we arranged a lunch at the restaurant DoReMi on Vozdovac.

SfS visited family Lucic near Cacak

Members and friends of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs visited on April 29 a six-member family Lucic from Cacak. The family consists of the single mother Sladjana and her five children: Stefan (18), who is a talented painter and poem writer, daughters Aleksandra (15), Jovana (10), Bosiljka (9) and the youngest son Dusan, who will turn two by the end of the year.

Our benefactors and great friends from Belgium have made a donation to our organization in Serbia in the amount of 10,000 din. to help Sofia Matejić towards her eye surgery . We have received a donation few days ago and you can view the receipts HERE .

Mothers are still raising little Obilics

Friends of the humanitarian organization Serbs for Serbs in Belgrade have developed a new series of shirts that will be sold in order to collect funds for the planned actions to help the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, which will carry out our organization in September of this year and January 2011
